++MESSAGE FROM THE COORDINATOR

Hi, Everyone,

Sorry this is late, but I've been having server problems. A couple of praise reports this time--both involving that critical first step in re-establishing a loving relationship between parent and child -- communication.  One mother reports her son is talking with her again after many, many months.  She thanks God and prays this is the beginning of his return to home and to the Church.   Another reports that her daughter-in-law, who had banished all religious articles from her home, has recently hung a cross received as a present (the cross was blessed with the intention of helping the family return to Jesus and His Church).
I pray these stories will bring you hope.  Do not get discouraged if the time seems to be growing long.  Some have prayed for years and years before they saw things changing.  Remember, just because we can't see it doesn't mean God isn't working.  We don't know that the rose is red until it blooms--but it has always been moving toward being red.
A father of 3 requests that you answer the following question:  [Has the fact that your child left the church made a tear in the fabric of  your family's relationship?]   Please take a few moments and email your response to
pray@marianmantle.com  (All Replies to this question will be kept anonymous)
May God bless all of us and grant us His Peace.
Peace,
MaryAnn

PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR MAY 7, 2004

[Prayer intentions submitted to this group are shared only in the semi-weekly email update sent to members of the online prayer group.  Please keep all of us and our prodigals in your prayers--just as we will pray for you.]

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Dear MaryAnn,
Just to say that my heart lights up and hope springs in my breast just to get the Mantle. Just to feel again that my problem is important and an apostolate exists to combat it, and that God listens especially when we pray in numbers. If two or three makes Him arrive into our midst, we hope that more would be more effective in getting his mercy and love.
God Bless You, and thanks again!
Joan

GOD'S WORD FOR US

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.  Hebrews 10:23

WORDS OF HOPE

A continuation, from last time, of:  HOPE: by Father James Keller, M.M. -- Founder, The Christophers
HOPE:
"Lights a candle" instead of "cursing the darkness."
Regards problems, small or large, as opportunities.
Cherishes no illusions, nor does it yield to cynicism.
Sets big goals and is not frustrated by repeated difficulties or setbacks.
Pushes ahead when it would be easy to quit.
Puts up with modest gains, realizing that "the longest jouney starts with one step."
Accepts misunderstandings as the price for serving the greater good of others.
Is a good loser because it has the divine assurance of final victory.

WHAT'S NEW AT MARIAN MANTLE

The display at the Prince of Peace Women's Group dinner was successful.  Several stopped to share their stories and preview the information available.  MaryAnn has been asked to give a "Silent Strength" presentation there, but the date has not yet been scheduled on the Fall calendar.
MM GROUP MEETING
The Marian Mantle Group meeting took place this afternoon at Sanctuary of Hope Retreat and Prayer Center in Kansas City, Kansas.  Even with all the weddings, First Communions, Confirmations, and graduatations going on this month, nine people attended.  Due to beautiful weather we were able to sit on the front porch and enjoy the outdoors while we talked.  Bob and MaryAnn presented a fact sheet listing the activities which have taken place since this association began last October including presentations given and attendance, presentations scheduled, results of the Leaven article and Prince of Peace display, the participation in the Friday prayer group at POP and the online prayer group.
MaryAnn reported that the presentation at St. Joseph's in Leavenworth next Thursday, May 27, at 7pm is open to the public.  The establishment of a follow-up prayer group there is already planned.  MaryAnn has been talking with the prayer group leader.  She and Bob will be meeting with the leader and the priest on Friday, May 28 to receive feedback on the presentation and to help with getting the prayer group off the ground.  Several local Marian Mantle members have indicated they will be at the Thursday presentation and will be available and willing to visit with anyone at the coffee afterward.
Discussion question for the group was "What do we do next?"  The many ideas and suggestions were most welcome and will be carried to the Lord in prayer for discernment.  The meeting ended with a prayer by Bob Gardner and Bernadine Asher.
PRESENTATION INFORMATION
Please tell your family and friends about our prayer group and about the Silent Strength presentation. MaryAnn will go wherever she is asked to speak--no matter the size of the group.  There is no fee.  She does ask Kansas City area groups for a stipend, if possible, to cover cost of gasoline to and from the meeting place.  For groups outside of KC, she asks that travel expenses be provided.  Currently, scheduled are St. Joseph's Church in Leavenworth, Kansas Mary 27, 7pm, the KCKS Serra Club on June 9, and the KC Catholic Conference on June 12.  If you would like more information about getting it scheduled in your parish, please email MaryAnn
