++MESSAGE FROM THE COORDINATOR

Hi, Everyone,

On this holiday weekend, I am reminded of something my husband said to me while we were in the middle of the years of praying for our son to return to the church.  Holidays were always a little uncomfortable because of all that was involved in his situation.  One time, I don’t remember the holiday, but we were going to the family gathering the next day.  Before I went to bed I told Bob I sure wished it were a better situation because it was so difficult to not be able to really enjoy the holiday.  He suggested, “Let’s be willing to sacrifice a few holidays right now, and offer up the sorrow and pain we feel in order to enjoy wonderful times in the future.”  We did.  God blessed and eventually honored our offering with family gatherings that today are better than ever!
      So, if this is a difficult time for you, please offer your hurt and pain to the Lord and ask for it to be joined to His Passion and death as a prayer for peace to return to your heart, and for your prodigal to return to the sacraments.  Turn your sorrow and pain into a positive action, a heartfelt prayer.
     Take a little time to read the Letter to the Editor, (below).  How would you answer?  Email me with your response.
     May God bless all of us and grant us His Peace.
Peace,
MaryAnn

PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR July 2, 2004

[Prayer intentions submitted to this group are shared only in the semi-weekly email update sent to members of the online prayer group.  Please keep all of us and our prodigals in your prayers--just as we will pray for you.]

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Hi, MaryAnn,

I have a question, a lady from our prayer group said her son told her he was thinking about joining the church again.  This morning, after Mass, another lady from our prayer group told me that her son who hasn't been going to church for sometime told her that he joined the local Catholic Church and was now going to mass on Sunday and thinking about putting his children in Catholic school.  It seems almost impossible that both of these two things could have come from our [recently formed] prayer group, because I know it usually takes years.  But is this possible?  Or is it just a coincidence?  I know the Lord could give them the grace to do it, He can do anything.  But I find it hard to believe--and yet these are both sons who just came out and told their mothers these things without any prompting or preliminary talk about religion.  Either way, it's good news.   ~Kansas~

Dear Kansas,

     Let’s look at the facts.  Someone was praying for a prodigal’s return.   That prodigal is headed home to mass and the sacraments.   This has happened twice since your prayer group began praying the rosary for the return of prodigals to the practice of Catholicism. Did this happen because of the prayer group?  I don’t know. All we know is, it happened--and their moms and a lot of others were praying together asking for it to happen.  Seemingly impossible things are always happening when people pray together—especially when they pray the rosary.

     Let us rejoice in their good news and accept it as a sign that “with God, all things are possible.”  Let it remind us that prayer does touch God’s heart.  Let us thank God for the opportunity to witness the movement of the Holy Spirit in our lives in such a personal way.  Let us resolve to persevere in our prayer for our prodigal loved ones.  ~ Peace, MaryAnn~
