++MESSAGE FROM THE COORDINATOR

Hi, Everyone,

When we voice our concern for our prodigal loved ones, we will hear all kinds of responses.  God bless those who respond, “I will pray with you.”  However, we are more likely to hear, “It’s silly to be concerned.”; “There’s nothing you can do.”; “It doesn’t matter.”; “In this day and age all churches are the same.”.
Sometimes it’s difficult to know what to do.  Should we be cautious?  Maybe this little story I received yesterday will help you decide.

[A photographer was assigned to cover the recent Southern California fires.    His magazine wanted to show some of the heroic work of the firefighters.

He was to rent a plane    and take photos from the air.  He was told to report to a nearby  airport, where a  single-engine plane would be waiting for him.

He arrived at the airport and saw a plane  warming up near the gate.  He jumped in with  his bag and shouted,  "Let's go!"  The pilot  swung the plane into the wind, and soon they were in the air.

The photographer said, "Fly over the park     and make two or three low passes.

     "Why?"  asked the pilot.

"Because I am a photographer for a national magazine,"  he responded,  "and I need some  close-up shots."

The pilot was silent for a moment; finally he  stammered,  "So, you're telling me you're not the flight instructor?" ]

Always pray for discernment so that you hear the voice of the Lord when someone gives you advice.  Make sure you aren’t flying with the wrong pilot!

May God bless all of us and grant us His Peace.

Peace,
MaryAnn

PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR September 24, 2004

[Prayer intentions submitted to this group are shared only in the semi-weekly email update sent to members of the online prayer group.  Please keep all of us and our prodigals in your prayers--just as we will pray for you.]

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Report From One of Our Prayer Group Leaders:

A lady from Kansas City called and request us to add her son's name to the vase where we place all our beloved that we are praying for.  This crystal container is placed in the center of the steps leading up to the adoration altar on Wed. and in the middle of our "Mary Altar" on Thurs.  This young man is out of the church and had gone back to drinking and they thought he had lost his job because he had quit going to work for a time.  Tonight I heard from his mother that he has quit drinking again, for some strange reason his job was waiting for him and he was going with his sister to meet with a priest.  Now this is Awesome!  By all rights, his job should have been terminated when he got out of the hospital and didn't go back to work and he hasn't been willing to see a priest for years.  Pray hard--his parents and siblings are.

Update From Jane Stucker On Fr. David Fontaine, Formerly Of St. Joseph's Leavenworth:

Talked to Fr. David Fontaine in California a couple of nights ago and he always asks about our prayer groups--and about you too.  I keep assuring him, we're doing fine.  I think our lowest number of people for a week was 17 and the highest has been 25, but mainly we average around 22 and that's always with someone regular missing because of illness, vacation, etc.  What a wonderful group we have here at St. Joseph-Immaculate Conception.  I saw one of the ladies who couldn't make it last Thursday and she said she felt bad but circumstances occurred and she just couldn't get there but she said she was comforted because she knew that the rest of us were praying for her people because their names were in the vase.  Saw another lady who rarely misses, this evening at a lecture at church for another topic, and she said she forgot, but felt so bad when she remembered.  I told her I knew something had happened and we'd see her next week.

[NOTE FROM MaryAnn:  Our best to that great group in Leavenworth.  They are seeing miracles all the time.  Hang in there guys.  And pray for the rest of us.]

GOD'S WORD FOR US

Blessed be the LORD, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle; my rock and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield and he in whom I take refuge.  ~Psalms 144: 1–2~

WORDS OF HOPE

It is essential to begin the practice of prayer with a firm resolution of persevering in it.  ~St. Teresa of Avila~

We should have frequent recourse to prayer, and persevere a long time in it. God wishes to be solicited. He is not weary of hearing us. The treasure of His graces is infinite. We can do nothing more pleasing to him than to beg incessantly that He bestow them upon us.   ~St. John Baptist de la Salle~
